What Counts as a Working Day
A working day, or business day, is typically any weekday — Monday through Friday — excluding weekends and public holidays. This calculator counts inclusively: both your start and end date are counted if they land on a weekday, which matches how most contracts, SLAs, and shipping estimates ("5-7 business days") actually calculate their deadlines.
The Formula
With "Exclude weekends" turned off, every calendar day in the range counts, minus only the holidays you specify — useful for schedules that run seven days a week.
Worked Example
From January 1 to January 31 (31 total days), excluding weekends: January 2026 has 9 weekend days (Saturdays and Sundays), leaving 22 working days. If 2 of those weekdays are public holidays, entering "2" in the holidays field brings the working-day total down to 20.
Why There's No Built-In Holiday Calendar
Public holidays differ by country, region, and even individual company policy — a single built-in calendar would be wrong for most visitors. Instead, count how many holidays fall within your date range from your own country's or company's calendar, and enter that number directly.
Worth knowing: If you enter an end date earlier than the start date, the calculator swaps them automatically so the range is still calculated correctly.
